Mrs. J. Kring
Mrs. J. Kring was healed of cancer of the lungs at the Azusa Mission on August 8, 1906. One of her lungs was completely closed up. She was immediately healed and shouted for an hour. She was reported to be "the happiest woman you ever saw." (Apostolic Faith October 1906)
From the 1900 Census it seems this is Mary Kring living in Washington Township, Alameda County. Kring was born May 1869, was 31 years old and was married to a blacksmith, John Kring (48). The couple were married in 1889 and had two children, Ethel (10) and John, Jr. (5). Mary was born in California, but both her parents were from New York. John, Sr. and his parents were born in Germany.
If this is the Mrs. Kring in the paper, she either traveled more than 300 miles to attend the meetings or perhaps had relocated to nearer Los Angeles by 1906.
We received information from Pastor John Barker that the Krings could be part of his family. Barker is the great great great grandson of Christian Kring of Nassau, Germany born about 1777. His grandfather, John Kring, Jr. was in the Civil War as a blacksmith. He shod General Grant's horses. Family tradition says some of the family traveled west in a covered wagon. There is no clear record that this family was in California at the time of the revival, so this is very speculative. If anyone has details to confirm any of this information, please email us.
If you have any further information on Mrs. J. Kring, if you have a photograph, or if you are a descendent, please contact us at info@azusastreet.org.
