Lucy Leatherman

Lucy Leatherman was one of the early participants at Azusa Street. In the Summer of 1906 she left with Louise Condit and Andrew Johnson on a mission to Oakland. From there, the missionaries planned to go to Jerusalem (Apostolic Faith September 1906).

Leatherman continued her journey and served many years as a missionary.

According to witnesses, through the power of the Spirit and gift of tongues, Leatherman spoke the Turkish languange. While in Oakland she began speaking to a man wearing a Turkish fez. He was an educated man from the college in Constantinople and wanted to know where she learned to speak perfect Turkish. She told him she did not understand the language but the Holy Spirit gave it to her.
