Evangelist Strand
Evangelist Strand left Seattle, Washington to attend the Azusa meetings where he recieved the baptism of the Holy Ghost. Strand witnessed healings and other demonstrations of God's power.
He began to write his home church the Jones Avenue Mission and tell of his experiences with the Holy Spirit. After Pastor Tonnneson read the letter to the congregation, a great hunger for God ensued. Soon they, too, experienced Holy Ghost revival. The Mission building was ot adequate for the crowds, so on Thanksgiving Day 1906, the west wall of the building was removed and the church auditorium was doubled in size.
As was often the case, the church was pelted with rocks and vandalized by the critics of Pentecosalism. The Jones Avenue Mission continues until today, as the successful Philadelphia Church of Seattle.
